Continental adds 35 mm GP500 S TR

BRR Analysis

Continental has officially expanded its flagship Grand Prix 5000 S TR tyre line, introducing a 35mm tubeless-ready option. This new size, available in both classic black and the popular 'transparent' sidewall, joins the existing 25mm, 28mm, 30mm, and 32mm offerings. The move addresses a growing market demand, bringing the highly-regarded GP5000 S TR performance to a wider tyre format.

This expansion is more than just a new SKU; it’s a clear acknowledgement of the industry’s inexorable shift towards wider tyres, even for performance road applications. While Continental previously offered a 35mm in their slightly more robust GP5000 AS TR, this marks the first time their pure race-day S TR compound is available at this width. It reflects a broader trend seen across professional and amateur pelotons, where the comfort, grip, and often lower rolling resistance of wider tyres are increasingly prioritised over traditional narrower setups.

Ultimately, Continental is simply giving the market what it wants. Riders have embraced wider tyres, and now they can do so with the gold standard of race rubber. It was less a question of if, and more of when.
