What Makes Downhill Different
Downhill World Cup racing is the simplest format in mountain biking: one rider, one run, one clock. Tracks descend 400–600 metres of vertical over 2–4 minutes, combining rock gardens, high-speed compressions, and jumps that would give most road cyclists a cardiac event. The margin between first and tenth place is often under three seconds.
Unlike Enduro — where fitness across a full day of riding matters — Downhill is pure explosive commitment. The Fort William track in Scotland is widely considered the most demanding on the calendar, with its infamous "Motorway" section separating the committed from the merely brave.
The 2026 season opens in May and runs through September, with the Mont-Sainte-Anne finale in Canada traditionally serving as the de facto world championship warm-up. Bruni has won there four times. Vali Höll has made the women's podium look like a formality for two seasons running.
