Mert Lawwill, a revered figure spanning both motorcycle and mountain bike disciplines, has passed away at the age of 85 in his home state of Idaho. Known for his pioneering spirit, Lawwill transitioned from a decorated motorcycle racing career, including the 1969 AMA Grand National Championship, to become a foundational innovator in early mountain biking, leaving an indelible mark on both industries.

Lawwill's significance extends beyond his individual achievements. His transition from flat track motorcycle racing to developing suspension systems for mountain bikes in the late 1980s and 90s, notably with his Lawwill Leader fork and later designs for Yeti, bridged two distinct eras of two-wheeled sport.
