Iván Ramiro Sosa gets his first win since 2022
BRR Analysis
Iván Ramiro Sosa (Movistar) ended a significant win drought this week, claiming his first victory since 2022 at the Tour of Asturias. This achievement follows closely on the heels of fellow Colombian Nairo Quintana (Movistar), who also snapped a two-year winless streak just four days prior. Both riders, once prominent figures in the peloton, have now returned to the top step of the podium in quick succession.
This return to form for Sosa, and Quintana before him, is noteworthy given their recent career trajectories. Sosa’s 2023 season was largely unremarkable after a promising start to his Movistar tenure, while Quintana's comeback to the WorldTour after his tramadol controversy has been a slow burn. These wins, albeit at ProSeries races, offer a much-needed morale boost and a glimmer of hope that both riders can contribute more meaningfully to their team's objectives beyond supporting roles.
While neither win will redefine their careers, it's a timely reminder that even seasoned pros benefit from the simple act of crossing the line first. Perhaps the peloton's forgotten Colombians are finally remembering how to win.
