ENVE Built the New XC28 Wheels for Cross-Country, but They’re Also E-Bike Approved

BRR Analysis

ENVE Composites has unveiled its new XC28 wheelset, designed primarily for cross-country and trail riding. Notably, these 28mm internal width carbon wheels are also officially e-bike approved, a significant detail given their lightweight XC classification. Available in 29-inch format, the XC28s are offered in both ENVE Foundation and ENVE M-Series builds, with claimed weights starting from 1357 grams for the Foundation model.

This dual-certification is a shrewd move, reflecting the burgeoning eMTB market and the increasing demand for durable, yet lightweight, components that can withstand the added stresses of electric assistance. While traditional XC components often prioritize minimal weight above all else, ENVE's decision to engineer the XC28s for e-bike use signals a recognition that even performance-oriented e-riders seek high-end, reliable options. It also highlights the convergence of design philosophies across different mountain biking disciplines.

Ultimately, ENVE is simply acknowledging the inevitable: if a wheel is robust enough for modern XC, it's increasingly expected to handle a lightweight e-MTB, too.
